San Diego Birding Resources

San Diego Region Birding Forum
The San Diego Region Birding group is the official Rare Bird Alerts forum for the San Diego region and is moderated by the San Diego Field Ornithologists.  For a more informal discussion of all things related to San Diego birds and birding see the Birding San Diego Discussion Group.

eBird by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology
Where birders report what birds they've seen.  Search HotSpots by place name, such as "San Elijo Lagoon" or "San Diego Botanic Garden" to see what birds have been seen here recently!

San Diego County Avian Records 2002 - by Paul Lehman et al. (current)
The BEST source for finding out when and where you can expect to find San Diego birds.

San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004)
This important work catalogs the locations of bird sightings and probability of breeding, migratory and residency status of birds across San Diego County from 1997 - 2002.  This online version is hosted by the San Diego Natural History Museum.

Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds by Nathan Pieplow (current)
An amazing resource containing catalogued sounds of the birds of North America.  The first place I start when trying to identify or learn a bird's voice.  The print field guide for Western North America (highly recommended) is available here on Amazon.

The Macaulay Library of bird recordings, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (current)
The raw collection of audio recordings associated with the eBird database.  Notice that you can change the Location field to limit your search to birds in a certain area.
