The name of our beloved California Clapper Rail has been
changed to "Ridgway's Rail". Here are some shots of our local Ridgway's Rail at
the San Elijo Nature Reserve.
They are not known for flying but if you are patient you may see one flying across the tide
channel.
Also catch it flying back across the tide channel to the pickleweeds. It's always fun to see these endangered marsh birds out in the open. People have visited our Lagoon for twenty years and have never seen one. Just know that they are there and all you need is to look carefully at the shoreline near the far south end of the trail and you could spot one too. Now it's time for me to head for home.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
Great behavioral shots, as always!
ReplyDeleteJust a note as I take up the mantle of the spelling police: no 'e' in Robert Ridgway's last name. Thus, Ridgway's Rail. The spell-checker doesn't like it either, trying to turn it into "Driveway's Rail."
Hi Greg, thanks for the heads up on the spelling. : )
