A Look at the "Sapphire Tower"

We have had a weather pattern known as El Niño and one of the effects of this is seen at the San Diego Botanic Garden. Here is a look at their famous and rare plant called the "Sapphire Tower Plant" that has finally bloomed and some experts say it is due to the weather pattern called El Niño .

I went to the garden to look for the female Calliope Hummingbird that was spotted by one of our top birders last week.  I had no luck finding her but did find this wonderful plant called the "Sapphire Tower". Puya alpestris is in the bromeliad plant family and this is the first time it has bloomed in two years!

A very unusual color flower. It is teal blue and has bright orange pollen.

Checking the ponds and noticing the lilies are in bloom again! Here is one that is just about to open.

The lily opened an hour later. Here is a shot of the same lily as above but freshly opened. What a gorgeous sight!

Great colors on this one.

A lovely soft pink-colored lily.

Even some of the bamboos are beautifully colored. You will love walking through the Bamboo forest at the garden.

More flowers at the garden.

Have a super week everyone!
