Birding at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery

A few shots from a quick day trip to the Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in Point Loma. Eve and I went searching for the Calliope Hummingbird but found only Anna's and a beautiful male Rufus hummer at the purple trumpet flower tree.  A pair of Western Bluebirds seemed to be nesting in the fork of a tree.  Dark-eyed Juncos were one of the most frequent birds seen. We used Greg Gillson's excellent Birding Site Guide to navigate around the cemetery.

The drive to Point Loma San Diego was very nice especially since it was Eve that was doing the driving and dealing with rush hour traffic. The mood is very somber at this beautifully manicured site as we see hundreds of white tombstones all in a perfect row for acres and acres on the beautiful hill on Point Loma and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Here's one of Eve's phone snaps looking east towards Coronado.

Here are some photos from the day trip.
